Sam Shoup has been involved in the music industry for over 20 years. His career includes performances in all types of musical ensembles, as well as writing and producing literally thousands of commercial jingles. He has also been doing MIDI programming since its inception in the 1980's and has extensive computer-music experience. Sam received a Bachelor of Music in Composition degree from the University of Memphis and an Associates Degree in Component Programming from State Technical Institute at Memphis. Recording credits include Ringo Starr - “The Memphis Sessions”, Willie Nelson - “Partners”, John Prine - “Live on Tour”, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins - “At Last”, Dog Police - “Dog Police”, and jingles for Dr. Pepper, Start Something Great in Memphis, Toys R Us and Reebok. Sam has performed with well-known artists such as Tony Bennett, Bob Hope, Vikki Carr, Charlie Rich, John Davidson, Bill Cosby and Wayne Newton. He has received awards for Outstanding Bassist at the International High School Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland, and at the Notre Dame Collegiate Jazz Festival, Winner of MTV’s Basement Tapes Competition with Dog Police, Premier Bassist Award twice at Memphis Premier Player Awards, the local chapter of NARAS, Pyramid Award for Outstanding Commercial Production for “Start Something Great in Memphis”, and Outstanding Component Programmer at State Technical Institute in Memphis. Sam was formerly part of the praise band at Hope Presbyterian Church, Memphis, Tennessee and joins TriplThreT on trumpet, premiering at its CD Release Party in September, 2001 at Church of the Harvest in Memphis.
